Mosgaard Peated Single Malt Whisky is our take on a spicy smoked whisky - with plenty of explosive flavour.
As the name suggests, it has been on Ex. Bourbon casks, but the aging has started in a completely different place. For the first 2 years, it has been stored in "first fill" French oak, which has given it a beautiful dark color and exciting spicy notes. For the last 2 years it has been at Ex. Bourbon cask, which contributes the classic vanilla taste, which suits peated whisky absolutely fantastically.
This double maturation is unusual for peated whisky, but it gives depth and complexity to the taste when smoke, spicy notes and vanilla sweetness meet. In general, we have found that aging in French oak causes the smoke to vibrate and wave a little, while the Bourbon casks calm it down, so the combination is really exciting.
It is bottled at 48.4% - which is why it benefits from a few drops of water in the glass to open it up, but also try to give it a little more to taste and pleasure. At 43-44%, something really happens in the nose.
Tasting notes: peat smoke, creamy toffee, peach, citrus, honey, almonds, burnt figs
